One day in 2014, I was seated in my law office awaiting the arrival of a late afternoon client. To pass the time, I was reading an issue of Quilting Arts Magazine, a national publication dedicated to the quilting arts. There was a call in that issue for submission of proposals for articles. On a complete whim, I submitted a proposal. I received an automatic email response that told me it would be weeks if not months before I heard anything. Fast forward about two weeks and I received a call one evening at home from the editor of the magazine. It turns out that they were planning an issue to be released in August/September 2014 on the general subject of color. They asked if I could have an article ready by their deadline for that publication. I immediately said yes without even knowing when that deadline would be. I submitted the required article and sent them three pieces of my work for them to photograph. A month or so later, I am driving in my car and got a call from that same editor. It turns out that they were going to use a piece of my art for the magazine cover. I literally could not wait until the issue was on the newsstand. I went to Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lexington, Kentucky and moved all issues of that magazine to the front of the display rack for a photograph and then purchased all of them. What a thrill that was!
